Modifications

  • Converted front turn signals into running lights - The front turn signals are usually off unless they are flashing; I used relays to invert this so that they are always on until activated by the flasher.

  • Added wiring to enable flashing of all four turn signals as hazard lights - I don't know why most bikes don't come with hazard lights; it's really a good safety feature.

  • Custom Windscreen - Manufactured by my friend Duke Dunsford. It reduces wind buffeting at highway speeds and keeps the rider's hands and body a bit warmer when riding in cold conditions.

  • Eliminated Rear Fender - The stock fender is huge and unsightly, and doesn't really serve much purpose, so off it came! Before and after photos

  • Polished wheel rims - This was a lot of work, but I'm very pleased with the end result. I used this excellent article as a guide. Before and after photos

  • Polished gas cap - I used the same technique as for stripping the wheels; this was a piece of cake compared to the wheels. Photo

  • Added inline fuel filter - An ounce of prevention to help keep crud out of the carbs. Photo

  • Sprockets - The stock sprockets are 14 teeth up front and 45 on the rear; I am running 15/44, which detracts just a bit from acceleration off the line, but substantially reduces interstate speed RPMs, which result in more relaxed riding and increased engine life expectancy. I'm currently using JT sprockets with an RK chain.

  • Oury grips with heating elements underneath - I have installed Symtec grip heaters underneath my Oury grips. They are inexpensive and easy to install, and they're quite toasty on cold rides. I have them installed on both of my bikes.

  • Changed horn to a Fiamm Highway Blaster Lo-Tone - This unit is MUCH louder than the stock horn. It's a very good safety enhancement for $15; it is a direct swap, taking all of about 5 minutes to install, with no wire cutting.
